- No. 39 Tiffany Mitchell pledges to SEC school
- One of the most explosive players with the ball in her class, Tiffany Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C., has committed to South Carolina and one of her childhood idols, coach Dawn Staley, according to her club coach, Toni Gore of FBC Southeast.
A junior at Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.), Mitchell recently scored a season-high 31 points during a 64-58 win over Oak Ridge Military Academy, and leads the defending state 3A champion Chargers with 17.1 points, 4.7 steals and 4.2 assists.
Mitchell was invited to the USA Basketball U17 trials last spring. She had been invited to the U16 trials in 2009, but an anterior-cruciate ligament injury prevented her from participating. Mitchell came back strongly from the injury, averaging 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.2 assists as a sophomore, and had 30 points, eight rebounds and five assists in thee NCISAA 3A championship game.
