No. 18 Jessica Washington commits to an ACC school
Jessica Washington of Tulsa, Okla., has verbally committed to North Carolina, according to her father, Travis Washington.

"I just think all the things we were looking for in a school were there," Travis Washington said. "Academically the school is great and has a great physical therapy school. And at North Carolina, she gets to compete for national championships."

Washington, a 5-foot-8 junior point guard at Jenks High School, is ranked 18th in the ESPN HoopGurlz Super 60.

Oklahoma prospect Jessica Washington starts strong at USA U16 trials
Jessica Washington, the Jenks (Okla.) High School star point guard, wasted little time making an impression at the USA Basketball U16 nation team trials as one of the few that really stood out during the early skill sessions. She followed it up with strong play in the first scrimmage session of the trials on Friday evening.

"I keep reminding myself that going to these big things is just going to make me better," Washington said, "and it's also a great thing for me because I get to see a lot of great players that I don't really get to see much."

Washington, a 5-foot-8 guard, showed a smoothness about her and the ability to keep the ball low, change directions in tight spaces, and when it comes to finishing she has the hops to get up make a play. She has shown the confidence and control that should keep her in the hunt for one of the 12 roster spots up for grabs.

One thing isn't wasted on Washington, when she makes a mistake she's ready to learn from it.

"Just not going as deep into the post or I'm going to get swatted," Washington said was the biggest thing she learned in the early going. "So just do the things I know and that I've learned in the past and it helps a lot."
