No. 4 ranked Markel Walker sets three visits
Markel Walker, the No. 4-ranked player in ESPN HoopGurlz' 2009 rankings, has set official visits to her final three schools -- UCLA, South Carolina and Louisville -- she said via e-mail.

Walker, a 6-1 wing from Philadelphia who played for the NYC Gauchos club team during the summer, heads to South Carolina this weekend for her second official visit.

Walker just returned from traveling across the country to visit UCLA, and she has scheduled a visit to Louisville for the weekend of October 17.

Walker previously committed to Pittsburgh but re-opened her list in May. Since narrowing to a final five, she has dropped both Pitt and DePaul from her list.

Louisville leads the final four list for Markel Walker, the No. 7 recruit in the ESPN HoopGurlz Hundred for 2009.
Walker, a 6-foot-1 wing out of Pittsburgh, Pa., favors the Cardinals over, in order, DePaul, South Carolina and UCLA, according to Will Rampersant, one of her NYC Gauchos club-team coaches.

Pittsburgh, interestingly, did not make the final cut. Walker, whose sister Mercedes was a star there, committed to Pitt last year, but re-opened her recruitment in May, 2008. The move created an avalanche of interest in Walker, though some college coaches said they weren't sure about her availability until she told Pitt it no longer was in the picture.

ESPN Hoopgurlz Top 100 Markel Walker hurts knee
Markel Walker, ranked no. 7 on ESPN Hoopgurlz Top 100, hurt her knee after getting caught up going after the ball during the Gauchos' 49-47 overtime win against Orlando. Walker said the trainer thought it was a deep bruise and told her not to put any pressure on it. Walker said if she can stand on it today, she will play. The 6-foot-2 forward with the NYC Gauchos spent most of the second half of the game with an ice pack on her knee.
