Breion Allen powers No. 29 Hoover past rival Bob Jones
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Facing each other for the third time this season, No. 29 Hoover (Hoover, Ala.) , behind the clutch effort of junior Breion Allen, took the rubber match against Bob Jones (Madison, Ala.) 50-41. In the two prior meetings the home team came away with the win, but this game was played at a neutral site, Samford University (Birmingham, Ala.)

With the teams' noted stars, Hoover's Chardonae Fuqua (four points) and Bob Jones' Jasmine Jones-Vaughn (five points), effectively taking each other out of the game with stellar heads-up defense, the Buccaneers looked to Allen to lead them to the win.

Bob Jones, which trailed by as many as nine in the third quarter, rallied to cut the lead to 33-30 in the closing seconds of the quarter on a Tierra Jones 3-pointer. Hoover answered on its next possession as Allen stroked a three of her own just before the buzzer to push the lead to 36-30. The shot, which deflated one of Bob Jones many rallies in a contest closer than the final nine-point spread, was one of many timely responses by Allen who hit some clutch free-throws down the stretch. Allen led the Buccaneers with 14 points.

Hoover improves to 20-2 on the season. The matchup of these two rivals is a rematch of last year's 6A state championship game and could be a preview of this season?s finale. Bob Jones (16-6), however, will more than likely need to get past No. 31 Sparkman (Harvest Ala.), a 20-1 team, which has defeated the Lady Patriots twice this season.

Jones led all scorers with 22 points. Hoover got nine points from Auburn-commit Nicole Tanner and eight points from Kyra Holiday. The game was big enough to draw out some big-name college coaches, including Nell Fortner (Auburn), Brenda Frese (Maryland), Jolette Law (Illinois), and Pat Summitt (Tennessee), among others.
