May 5, 2012
- Washington County H.S. (GA)
- Scouts Grade: 96
- Position Rank (G): 4
No. 8 Allisha Gray joins a busy '13 recruiting day
Gray, who is the No. 8 prospect in the ESPN HoopGurlz Super 60 for the 2013 class, is the fourth player to pledge to UNC on Saturday. She joins No. 3 Diamond DeShields of Norcross, Ga., No. 15 Stephanie Mavunga of Brownsburg, Ind., and No. 18 Jessica Washington of Tulsa, Okla. The quartet isn't alone, as previously committing to North Carolina were Tanisha Brown of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and twin sisters Bria and Briana Day of Raleigh, N.C.
Stephanie Mavunga, F
May 5, 2012
- Brownsburg H.S. (IN)
- Scouts Grade: 95
- Position Rank (F): 5
No. 15 Stephanie Mavunga is headed to Chapel Hill
No. 18 Jessica Washington commits to an ACC school
"I just think all the things we were looking for in a school were there," Travis Washington said. "Academically the school is great and has a great physical therapy school. And at North Carolina, she gets to compete for national championships."
Washington, a 5-foot-8 junior point guard at Jenks High School, is ranked 18th in the ESPN HoopGurlz Super 60.
Diamond DeShields pledges to an ACC program
"I felt at North Carolina I can be myself on and off the court," DeShields said. "Coach (Sylvia) Hatchell develops players into young women."
DeShields is the highest ranked player to commit in the 2013 class to date and only the second five-star player to make a verbal commitment.
"I feel like once you get that feeling, you should do it," DeShields said. "I have had this feeling about some of the other schools, but never for this long."
DeShields said with her mind made up she didn't want to lead any of the other schools on in the recruiting process. She now shifts her focus to USA Basketball U17 national team trials later this month before the the July viewing period where she and her AOT Lady Rebels are hoping to redeem some close losses from the spring.
Antoinette Bannister, G
Feb 8, 2012
- Potters House Christian (FL)
- Scouts Grade: 93
- ESPN100 Rank: 59
- Position Rank (G): 23
No. 58 Antoinette Bannister reaches rare milestones
On the Feb. 3, 79-75 victory over ING Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), Bannister finished with 45 points, 14 rebounds and 8 steals while converging 14 of 15 attempts from the free-throw line. That effort put Bannister over 4,450 points in her career as well as eclipsing 2,300 assists and 657 3-point shots made.
Because Potter's House is not a member of the Florida High School Federation the record is unofficial. If the team were a member school the total would have earned Bannister a post on the National High School Federation's (NHSF) national scoring list, at third all-time behind Adrian McGowen's 5,424 points for Goodrich (Texas) from 2003-06, and Missy Thomas' 4,506 points for Gibsland-Coleman (Gibsland, La.) from 1992-95.
Bannister's 657 threes made would rank first nationally if it were acknowledged by the NHSF, well ahead of current record of 500, set by Ashley Wirtzberger of Gila Bend (Ariz.) from 2007-10. Her assist totals also would be enough for top honors in the national career list, ahead of the current record of 1,169 assists set by Mary Johnson of Longview (Texas), set from 1980-83.
Xylina McDaniel, F
Oct 24, 2011
- Spring Valley H.S. (SC)
- Scouts Grade: 95
- ESPN100 Rank: 26
- Position Rank (F): 6
No. 25 Xylina McDaniel makes her choice
McDaniel, the 6-foot-2 forward who has a 4-star rating, made her official visit to the Chapel Hill campus on Sept. 17. She becomes the highest ranked prospect in the Tar Heels' 2012 recruiting class. She joins No. 57 N'Dea Bryant of Goose Creek, S.C., a 6-0 wing; No. 58 Antoinette Bannister of Jacksonville, Fla., a 5-10 guard; and No. 80 Hillary Fuller of Fernandina Beach, Fla., a 6-1 forward, in head coach Sylvia Hatchell's haul.
N'Dea Bryant, W
Jun 6, 2011
- Goose Creek H.S. (SC)
- Scouts Grade: 93
- ESPN100 Rank: 58
- Position Rank (W): 9
No. 40 N'Dea Bryant gives an ACC program three top 60 commits in 2012
Bryant, a 6-foot wing from Goose Creek, S.C., joins a UNC class which already has commitments No. 52 Antoinette Bannister, a 5-10 combo guard, and No. 59 Hillary Fuller, a 6-1 forward. Both Bannister and Fuller attend Potter's House Christian in Jacksonville, Fla.
UNC landing Bryant gives the program three commitments in both the 2012 and 2013 classes. Sylvia Hatchell's program has been aggressive in recruiting underclassmen as well with verbal commitments from 5-5 point guard Jamie Cherry, an ESPNU HoopGurlz 100 Watch List prospect in the 2014 class, and 5-8 point guard Te'a Cooper.
North Carolina goes far into the future with a 2015 commitment
"She said she liked the coaching staff, the tradition, the campus and the style of play," Hudson added.
Cooper is the first 2015 prospect (finishing her eighth grade school year) to report a verbal commitment to date.
UNC gets two Day's in one day.
Cox told ESPN HoopGurlz in an email the Durham natives made the commitment during a unofficial visit to the Chapel Hill, N.C., campus. Briana, a four-star rated forward-center prospect, and Bria, a three-star post prospect, helped lead Millbrook HIgh School to the 4A state championship game this winter. Briana earned NCHSAA Eastern Regional MVP honors and CAP-8 All Conference in the process.
North Carolina is ahead of everyone in total underclass recruits. The Day sisters will join Tanisha Brown, a four-star guard from South Carolina in the Tarheels' 2013 haul. The program has a pair of Potter's House Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) teammates committed for the 2012 class -- guard Antoinette Bannister and forward Hillary Fuller -- both of whom are ranked in the ESPNU Super 60.
It doesn't stop there either, Hatchell has a verbal commitment form Jamie Cherry, a 5-5 point guard who is an ESPNU HoopGurlz Watch List prospect in the 2014 class.
UNC dips into 2014 class for a point guard commitment
Brittany Roundtree, PG
Mar 12, 2011
- Potters House Christian (FL)
- Scouts Grade: 93
- ESPN100 Rank: 53
- Position Rank (PG): 11
No. 2 Potter's vs. No. 7 Riverdale declared "no contest"
"The game ended with officials calling a double disqualification on both teams," Hartman said.
Both benches cleared with Potter's House leading 68-50 and 3:23 to play. It was unclear, on video streamed by iHigh.com, what ignited the situation. Some jawing back and forth, and rough play, proceeded the fracas. Hartman said neither team was an "innocent party."
"I hated to see it end that way," Potter's House coach Tony Bannister said.
Brittany Roundtree, a senior guard bound for North Carolina, scored 25 points to lead Potter's House in the game played in Erie, Pa.
Hillary Fuller, F
Jan 21, 2011
- Potters House Christian (FL)
- Scouts Grade: 93
- ESPN100 Rank: 81
- Position Rank (F): 16
No. 28 junior Hillary Fuller gives her verbal commitment
"(UNC) has always been in my top five," Fuller said, "and I love the they attack, they play so fast... it's exactly the way we play."
Fuller also noted the school's medical program as a major draw. She didn't consider any offers from schools that did not have a medical school where she could study to be a nurse practitioner, pediatrician or pharmacist.
The timing of Fuller's commitment may catch some off guard, being it's the middle of the high-school season. The Tarheels offered her a scholarship in the late summer and she initially wanted to commit right away. Her father convinced her to take her time and make sure it was the right fit.
Fuller has been on campus numerous times through club ball tournaments, team camps and unofficial visits.
"Just talking with coach (Sylvia Hatchell), whether I can see her or not, I just have a big smile," Fuller said of her future coach, "Just talking to (the coaches) make me excited."
Fuller, a four-star prospect, is the second verbal commit for Hatchell's Tarheels in the 2012 class, joining Potter's House teammate Antoinette Bannister.

Danielle Butts, W

No. 58 junior Danielle Butts pulls the trigger on her commitment
Butts' is the twelfth player in the ESPNU Super 60 to verbally commit to date.
UNC lands top 100 point guard Shannon Smith
"I love their campus and, of course, their coaching staff and players," Smith told ESPN HoopGurlz. "We had chemistry from the beginning."
Recruitment really picked up with North Carolina earlier this month when Smith played in the program's elite camp. The Heels have always been her favorite school so when the offer came, with the support of her family, she made the commitment the same day.
"It's one of the top programs in the country," Smith said. "And it's a perfect fit with their uptempo style."
Krista Gross, W
Aug 14, 2008
- Cannon School (NC)
- Scouts Grade: 94
- ESPN100 Rank: 23
- Position Rank (W): 6
No. 29 Krista Gross is down to four.
Gross is a big physical wing with the skill and range to play the shooting guard spot as well. She can overpower a smaller defender inside or rip the net from behind the arc and is ranked as the No. 6 wing in the class of 2009.
Waltia Rolle, P
Jun 17, 2008
- Westbury Christian H.S. (TX)

- ESPN100 Rank: 28
- Position Rank (P): 9
ESPN's Super 60 prospect Waltia Rolle picks UNC
Sutton said Rolle, who had decided on UNC in the spring then chose to consider other schools during the summer, chose the Tar Heels late last week after also considering Maryland, Louisville and Duke.
Rolle is a 6-foot-6 post for Sutton's Westbury Christian program and played with the Cy-Fair Houstonians club team during the summer.
