Diamond DeShields, the No. 3 prospect in the ESPN HoopGurlz Super 60, told ESPN HoopGurlz she has verbally committed to North Carolina. The 6-foot-2 junior wing chose the Tar Heels over finalists Connecticut, Duke, Maryland and Tennessee.

"I felt at North Carolina I can be myself on and off the court," DeShields said. "Coach (Sylvia) Hatchell develops players into young women."

DeShields is the highest ranked player to commit in the 2013 class to date and only the second five-star player to make a verbal commitment.

"I feel like once you get that feeling, you should do it," DeShields said. "I have had this feeling about some of the other schools, but never for this long."

DeShields said with her mind made up she didn't want to lead any of the other schools on in the recruiting process. She now shifts her focus to USA Basketball U17 national team trials later this month before the the July viewing period where she and her AOT Lady Rebels are hoping to redeem some close losses from the spring.

No. 58 Antoinette Bannister reaches rare milestones

Antoinette Bannister of Jacksonville, Fla., was honored before her Potter's House Christian Academy's (Jacksonville, Fla.) senior night as the all-time leading scorer for girls' basketball in the stateFlorida, according to her father and the team's head coach, Tony Bannister.

On the Feb. 3, 79-75 victory over ING Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), Bannister finished with 45 points, 14 rebounds and 8 steals while converging 14 of 15 attempts from the free-throw line. That effort put Bannister over 4,450 points in her career as well as eclipsing 2,300 assists and 657 3-point shots made.

Because Potter's House is not a member of the Florida High School Federation the record is unofficial. If the team were a member school the total would have earned Bannister a post on the National High School Federation's (NHSF) national scoring list, at third all-time behind Adrian McGowen's 5,424 points for Goodrich (Texas) from 2003-06, and Missy Thomas' 4,506 points for Gibsland-Coleman (Gibsland, La.) from 1992-95.

Bannister's 657 threes made would rank first nationally if it were acknowledged by the NHSF, well ahead of current record of 500, set by Ashley Wirtzberger of Gila Bend (Ariz.) from 2007-10. Her assist totals also would be enough for top honors in the national career list, ahead of the current record of 1,169 assists set by Mary Johnson of Longview (Texas), set from 1980-83.

Briana, a four-star rated forward-center prospect, and Bria, a three-star post prospect, helped lead Millbrook HIgh School to the 4A state championship game this winter. No. 2 Potter's vs. No. 7 Riverdale declared "no contest"

Clarifying conflicting versions of his tournament's shortened championship game, Nate Hartman, director of the National Christian School Athletic Association, said officials declared the Saturday game between No. 2 Potter's House Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) and No. 7 Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.) a "no contest."

"The game ended with officials calling a double disqualification on both teams," Hartman said.

Both benches cleared with Potter's House leading 68-50 and 3:23 to play. It was unclear, on video streamed by iHigh.com, what ignited the situation. Some jawing back and forth, and rough play, proceeded the fracas. Hartman said neither team was an "innocent party."

"I hated to see it end that way," Potter's House coach Tony Bannister said.

Brittany Roundtree, a senior guard bound for North Carolina, scored 25 points to lead Potter's House in the game played in Erie, Pa.

No. 28 junior Hillary Fuller gives her verbal commitment

Hillary Fuller, the 6-foot-1 forward from Fernandina Beach, Fla., told ESPN HoopGurlz she verbally committed to North Carolina Thursday evening. The junior at Potter's House Christian (Jacksonville, Fla.) is ranked No. 28 in the ESPNU HoopGurlz Super 60.

"(UNC) has always been in my top five," Fuller said, "and I love the they attack, they play so fast... it's exactly the way we play."

Fuller also noted the school's medical program as a major draw. She didn't consider any offers from schools that did not have a medical school where she could study to be a nurse practitioner, pediatrician or pharmacist.

The timing of Fuller's commitment may catch some off guard, being it's the middle of the high-school season. The Tarheels offered her a scholarship in the late summer and she initially wanted to commit right away. Her father convinced her to take her time and make sure it was the right fit.

Fuller has been on campus numerous times through club ball tournaments, team camps and unofficial visits.

"Just talking with coach (Sylvia Hatchell), whether I can see her or not, I just have a big smile," Fuller said of her future coach, "Just talking to (the coaches) make me excited."

Fuller, a four-star prospect, is the second verbal commit for Hatchell's Tarheels in the 2012 class, joining Potter's House teammate Antoinette Bannister.
