PG Amanda Berntsen has career-high 33 points in sectional final

Amanda Berntsen, a Princeton-bound senior, scored a career-high 33 points on Tuesday night to lead Chatham (N.J.) to a 53-42 victory over West Morris Central (Chester, N.J.) in the North Jersey Group III Section Finals.

The 5-foot-9 point guard hit 10 of 11 shots from the floor, made 12 of 15 free throws, and had four assists and four steals.

The sectional title is Chatham's third in four years.

4-star P Taylor Williams going Ivy League

Taylor Williams of Warren, Ohio, committed to Princeton University, according to her club program director, Tucker Neale of SMAC AAU Basketball.

The 6-foot-3 post, rated a four-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz, also entertained offers from Marist, Miami (Ohio), Purdue and Virginia.

"She really fell in love with the school on her unofficial visit and academically knew this was the school for her," Neale said in an email.

Williams averaged 19.7 points and was named first-team all-league and second-team all-state as a junior at Howland (Warren, Ohio).

Princeton now has two four-star commitments, including Alex Wheatley of Upper Holland, Pa., and one three-star verbal, from Michele Miller of Pasadena, Calif.

4-star F Alex Wheatley going Ivy League

Alex Wheatley of Upper Holland, Penn., has committed to Princeton, according to her club coach, Fran Burbridge of the Philly Belles.

The 6-foot-3 forward, rated four stars by ESPN HoopGurlz, joins Michelle Miller of Pasadena, Calif., a three-star wing, in a solid recruiting class so far for the Tigers.

Wheatley averaged 20.1 points, 15 rebounds and 3.8 steals while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line as a junior for Council Rock South (Newton, Penn.). She was selected first-team all-state Class AAAA by the Associated Press, Suburban One League National Conference's player of the year and Courier Times player of the year.

"She had a real good summer," Burbridge said, "and is a good get for Princeton."

G Michelle Miller decides on the Ivy League

Michelle Miller, the 5-foot-10 guard from Pasedena, Calif., has verbally committed to Princeton, her Cal Storm Team Taurasi club team coach, George Quintero, told ESPN HoopGurlz.

"She has the offensive potential and scoring mind set that should make her an impact player in the Ivy League," Quintero said. "Michelle's work ethic will allow he rot fit perfectly into coach (Courtney Banghart's) system."

Miller, a rising senior at Polytechnic High School (Pasadena, Calif.), is a three-star rated prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz and is looking to pursue a degree in bio-medical engineering before moving on to medical school.

Top 60 player picks Princeton

Mariah Smith, the No. 57 ranked prospect in the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100, committed to Princeton.

"On my visit I thought I made a real connection with the coaches and the team, and I loved being there," Smith said in an email.  "Princeton is the number one school in the U.S. academically and it's where I know I need to be to further my education and pursue my career of becoming a biomedical engineer.  Coach Banghart has established a great system out there and I want to be a part of it."

Smith, a native of Peoria, Ill., is a senior at Richwoods High School and played the summer with the Illinois Hustle club team. Her other finalists included Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and Yale.

2010 California guard Nicole Hung chooses Ivy

Nicole Hung, a 6-foot guard/wing from Los Angeles' Harvard Westlake High School, has given her verbal commitment to Princeton, she told ESPN HoopGurlz via e-mail.

"Princeton felt like the right fit for me," Hung wrote. "I really like the coaching staff and got along very well with the girls on the team, and Princeton is a program that is on the rise. Coach Banghart's last two recruiting classes have been pretty talented and the team is off to a great start this season. Also, the campus is absolutely gorgeous, and the Princeton undergraduate experience is incomparable."

Hung narrowed her list to Princeton, Harvard and walking on at Stanford in September then took official visits to Harvard and Princeton this fall, as well as an unofficial visit to Stanford, where her father is an alumni.

Hung was part of the Cal Swish club program that won July's Nike Nationals tournament in Augusta, Ga.

Niveen Rasheed picks Princeton

Niveen Rasheed has verbally committed to play basketball for Princeton University for the 2009-2010 season, her father told ESPN Hoopgurlz. The 5-foot-10 guard from Monte Vista High School picked Princeton over Oregon, Washington, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Columbia. Rasheed picked princeton because she felt the academic profile, campus and team were the best fit. "When I went there, it was amazing. I loved it. It's well-known for its academics, and I really like the team and coaching staff."

Last year Rasheed helped to lead the Mustangs to a 25-3 record and the EBAL title.
