3-star G Sasha Weber picks a WAC program

Sasha Weber of Lacey, Wash., has committed to New Mexico State University, according to an email from her father, Dave Weber. The 6-foot guard also considered BYU, Fresno State, where she made a visit last weekend, Oregon State and UNLV. The 3-star rated prospect made her pledge following a home visit on Oct. 4, from Aggies head coach Mark Trakh and assistant coach Aarika Hughes.

"Coach Trakh was successful at Pepperdine and USC and I'm excited that he recruited me at my natural position (point guard)," Weber said in a statement released by her father. "On my official visit last month, he showed me a clear vision of what he expects my role to be. Plus, I was part of a building process in high school that my teammates and I took a lot of pride in. I'm ready for the same kind of challenge in college."

Weber, the 2010 Washington State 3A high jump champion (5 feet 8 inches) and a four-event state qualifier in 2011, had several track scholarship offers, but has always preferred to play basketball in college.

Weber is Timberline High School's all-time scoring leader with 1,013 points heading into her senior year. She helped the Blazers to 21 straight wins to open the 2010-11 season, on their way to the 41-year old school's first ever WIAA state tournament appearance. In the six seasons preceding Weber's arrival in 2008, the Blazers finished a combined 15-111. During the club season -- in addition to being named one of ESPN Hoopgurlz "Best of Summer" defensive players -- she was all-tournament at the End of the Trail for the third time and also earned two tournament MVP honors while playing with a talented Tree of Hope team.

Weber is the third player in the 2012 class to commit to the Aggies. She joins fellow 3-star prospects Abby Scott of Madras, Ore., a 6-1 wing, and Shay Young of San Diego, Calif., a 6-0 guard.

New Mexico State adds Camila Rosen

Berkeley High senior Camila Rosen gave her verbal commitment to play basketball at New Mexico State, according to the Las Cruces Sun-News. The 6-foot forward/guard made her decision after visiting Pepperdine, another school of interest. "I just thought it would be the best fit. I really liked the coaching staff and the facility...I didn't want to pass up a good opportunity."

Rosen averaged 16.5 points per game last season, but this summer she suffered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, making the recruiting process more difficult.
