No. 39 Nigia Greene chooses the ACC

Nigia Greene of Atlanta, Ga., has verbally committed to the University of Miami, according to her high school coach, Aisha Gaddis of St. Francis. The 5-foot-10 guard, who is ranked 39th in the ESPN HoopGurlz Super 60, also considered Georgia, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech.

Greene will not be on the circuit this summer as she recovers from torn ligaments in her left knee. She suffered tears to her anterior-collateral ligament and medial-collateral ligament in March during the Georgia North-South All Star game.

"She is doing well in physical therapy and we hope to have her back on the court in December," Gaddis said in a text message.

No. 47 Caprice Dennis is ACC bound

Caprice Dennis of Detroit, Mich., the No. 47 prospect in the 2012 class, has committed to the University of Miami (Fla.), according to her club coach, Jay Bee Bethea of All Ohio.

The 5-foot-9 guard also considered Kansas, Kentucky and Texas. Dennis previously had committed to Kansas, but re-opened her recruitment last August, explaining that she felt she had committed too fast.

Dennis can sign during the spring signing period, April 11 to May 16. Her commitment leaves only No. 66 Je Zhe Newton of Chandler, Ariz., as the only uncommitted prospect in the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100 for the 2012 class.

Rated a four-star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz, Dennis averaged 26 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for Pershing (Detroit, Mich.) and was named the Associated Press Class A Player of the Year. She had a high of 56 points in a game this past season.

Macy Keen of Tamarac, Fla., has verbally committed to Miami, according to her former club team coach, Pat Gajardo. The 6-foot-5 post is ranked 37th in the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100 for the 2012 class.

Keen, who is rated a four-star prospect, is the second player to commit to the Hurricanes in the class. She joins Keyona Hayes of Austell, Ga., a 6-1 forward who is ranked 67th in the class by ESPN HoopGurlz.

Keyona Hayes, the 6-foot-2 senior from St. Francis High School (Alpharetta, Ga.) committed to play for University of Miami on Sunday, according to her high school coach, Aisha Gaddis. She chose the Hurricanes over South Carolina, Florida, Penn State, and UNC-Wilmington.

"She really likes the small private school environment with the big basketball program," Gaddis. "Keyona really likes the staff and players at Miami and feels she can come in and be impact player to this program. She and her mother felt like Miami was the best place for her academically and athletically."

Hayes, ranked 67th in the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100, averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks and 6 assists as a junior.

No. 67 Michelle Woods verbally commits

Michelle Woods, the 5-foot-8 combo guard from The Community School in Naples, Fla., told ESPN HoopGurlz she has verbally committed to the University of Miami.

Woods, who is ranked No. 67 in the 2011 class by ESPN HoopGurlz, said she liked the smaller class sizes that Miami offers as well as the location, which is just an hour-and-a-half from her family, as well as a connection with the coaching staff.

"I felt a good relationship with coach (Katie) Meier," Woods added.

The Hurricanes were one of the first schools to begin recruiting Woods back in the eight grade and that early start helped her feel comfortable with the decision.

Woods took the spring season off and will not be traveling with her club team this summer. She will instead focus on workouts at home and playing pick-up to advance her skills.

Suriya McGuire, the No. 16 ranked player in the ESPN HoopGurlz Hundred, gave her verbal commitment Tuesday evening to the University of Miami, according to her North Tartan club team coach Bill Larson. She narrowed her final four down to a final duo of Miami and Rutgers before deciding.

McGuire, a 5-foot-9 point guard from Minneapolis, Minn., was one of the biggest risers in the rankings after an terrific summer. She also considered Kansas and Southern California.

Miami lands South Broward's Krystal Saunders

Krystal Saunders, a 5-foot-8 point guard from West Park, Fla., gave her verbal commitment to the University of Miami and head coach Katie Meier, according to her Hollywood Eagles club team coach Richard Walker.

Saunders averaged 18.0 points 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists as a junior. She was MVP in the Kruel Classic and also made the All-Tournament Team in the Big 8 Tournament and the Orange Bowl Classic.

Miami lands Top 40 commit in Morgan Stroman

Morgan Stroman, the No. 33 prospect in the ESPN HoopGurlz Hundred for 2009, told ESPN HoopGurlz she has committed to Miami.

The explosive 6-foot-1 wing also had been considering Clemson, Louisville and Virginia Tech. Stroman is a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in South Carolina, where she plays for her mother, Debbie, at Lower Richland High School, winners of three straight 4A titles.

Stroman is the second 2009 commit for Miami coach Katie Meier, who last year snared McDonald?s All-America Shenise Johnson. Hannah Shaw, a 6-4 post who played for England?s U18 national team, was Meier?s first verbal in this year?s class.

"Salina possesses a body type that will only help her develop into a solid player for the University of Miami and Coach Katie. She is eager to improve her game mentally and physically. Being a great team leader all summer and dedicated herself to improving the small parts of her game has made her one of the best players in her class in the State of Florida."

Top-25 prospect Cierra Warren has selected Washington State and Miami as the last two of five official visits she will make, her club coach said. A 6-foot-3 post from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Warren is ranked No. 21 in the ESPN HoopGurlz Hundred for the 2009 class. Warren also will make an unofficial visit to a sixth school, Cal, according to Elbert Kinnebrew, her Cal Sparks club coach. In addition to WSU and Miami, she will make official visits to North Carolina, Rutgers and Maryland. Arizona State, Kansas, Louisville and Penn State have been eliminated from Warren's previous lists of finalists.
