Where I'm From: Lauren Battista
Who: Lauren Battista | Senior SF, Oliver Ames (Easton, Mass.) | Where: Easton, Mass.
Editor's note: Every week, ESPN RISE editor David Auguste will take you on a journey to the hometowns of some of the nation's top talents, giving you an inside look at where they're from. We'll get a tour of their favorite spots for sports, good eats, entertainment and more. So come along for the ride and remember, it's not where you're at, it's where you're from.
I live in Easton, Massachusetts. It's about 45 minutes from Boston. It's definitely come a long way in the past decade. It's starting to have more commercial stuff and more things to do.
Oliver Ames High was named after the Ames family. They were the most famous people in Easton. They donated a bunch of land to the town. In my senior class, there are about 300 kids. The class sizes are getting bigger, though.
Bright Lights, Big City
Borderland State Park is a good tourist attraction. It's one of the best in Easton. It's very popular for running and cross country. It's scenic and there's a good place to ride your bike on the trails. I heard a movie (Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island") was filmed there recently.
In Boston, there is something for everyone's interest. It's really rich in history. Great history with music and theatre. Great sports history with Fenway Park and the TD Garden. You could go on the Duck Tours (that take you around the city).
Pump It Up
Pop, hip hop and country are popular. For pop, Britney Spears is still popular around here. For younger high school people, it's the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus. "Party in the USA" is very popular. Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Eminem are popular for rap, and Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts are big for country. The place to see them is the Comcast Center in Mansfield, unless they go to the Garden.
The jerk dance and stanky leg dances are good. I can probably do them better than anyone you know.
Hungry? Why wait?
A good place to eat is Maguire's Bar and Grill on Route 106. It's not just a pub but also a restaurant. They are famous for their clam chowder. And they have pretty good honey hot chicken wings. It's chicken with tasty sauce (between spicy and barbecue) on it.
Every girl in our town wears North Face jackets, jeans and Uggs. You can live in Easton if you own (Uggs and a North Face). Popular clothing stores are Forever 21, Hollister and American Eagle. Ugg moccasins are becoming popular. Seven jeans are very popular.
In girls' basketball, our biggest rivals are Mansfield and Walpole. In recent years we have a pretty big rivalry with Mansfield. We always play Walpole once a season. It's an out of league game but it's always very competitive. On the boys' side, it's Stoughton. In the state, there's a good rivalry between the Catholic schools: Boston College High and Xaverian.
The most popular pro team is the Red Sox. Everyone wants the Red Sox to win. The Patriots have been good around here. I would say it's between the Red Sox and Pats. My family follows all the Boston teams. Personally, I like the Celtics.
The most popular jersey is Tom Brady because he's attractive (laughing). I don't think the boys do it because he's attractive but they like him because he's a great player.
We had a Patriots player (former linebacker Mike Vrabel) who lived down the street from us. (Former MLB star) Mo Vaughn used to live in Easton. A lot of Patriots players live in North Attleboro, like half an hour from Easton.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are from Boston and a lot of the presidents were initially from here. Our school's most famous alum -- besides myself -- is a runner named Andy Powell. He is a famous runner and is a coach for the University of Oregon.
Kickin' It Old School
We have a tradition where the underclassmen decorate the whole school with ridiculous stuff for senior day. I definitely think we do it more intense than other schools. We also have a powder puff football game between the juniors and seniors. It gets pretty competitive.
Say What? (local slang)
"Wicked" -- It means a lot of something or an extreme. For example, "that's wicked awesome" or "that joke was wicked funny."
My tourist slogan: "If you want to be wicked cool, come visit Oliver Ames High School."
