ACC leads in 2010 recruiting
There is rarely a year that the Atlantic Coast Conference schools aren't populating numerous spots near the top of recruiting class rankings. The 2010 class is no different as the ACC is the top-ranked conference for recruiting. This is second year in a row the conference is at the top but this year it's even more top heavy with five of the top 25 classes in the country and nearly a quarter of the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100.
The anomaly is that North Carolina wasn't at the forefront raiding the 2010 class with Duke and Maryland. After a loaded Tar Heel class in 2009 featuring five players in the top 100, and a four-player class in 2008 the program simply didn't need as many prospects in this class.
Picking up the imaginary slack again is up-start Florida State who signed the No. 2 player in the class, Natasha Howard from Toledo, Ohio, and two other top 100 prospects. The Seminoles locked down the No. 5 class and still managed just third in the conference with Duke signing the top class and inking the No. 2 class in the country.
The Big East was a little down last year in term of conference-wide recruiting but that was in large part to Connecticut signing just one player. With the Huskies back snatching up five top 100 players and the No. 3 overall class the Big East take the No. 2 spot in the conference recruiting rankings.
The biggest drop from a year ago is the Big 10 Conference, which was the second best conference in the class of 2009 with five top 25 classes and 10 of its 11 member schools with a top 60 class, the best ratio of any conference.
