Aly Beebe experiences highs, lows
For Aly Beebe, it was the best of times, then the worst of times and the best of times once again in a 48-hour span for the 6-foot-3 post player. After being admitted into Stanford on Saturday, she tore her ACL Sunday in a game before committing to Stanford on Tuesday. The ESPNU HoopGurlz No. 6 ranked prospect is a top-shelf post prospect and will fit right in with the Cardinal's deliberate style of play on both ends of the hardwood. She's a talented pivot who is comfortable playing on the block, rebounding the basketball, then running the floor to post hard on the other end. After signing six players in the Class of 2011, Beebe marks the first recruit for head coach Tara VanDerveer's program in the 2012 class. Beebe will have big shoes to fill as the Pac-12 powerhouse did not bring in a true back-to-basket post in the class ahead of hers. In addition, they just lost Kayla Pedersen to the WNBA and graduate first-team Pac-10 selection Nneka Ogwumike at the conclusion of 2011-12 season. For a program known for its post play, Beebe looks to become another name in the long lineage of future WNBA Draft Picks out of Palo Alto, Calif.
Hamilton to the Big East without leaving TexasVeja Hamilton has given her verbal commitment to TCU. The smooth 5-9 four-star combo guard is TCU's first official Big East recruit as they begin to make the transition from Conference USA to the BCS power conference. Hamilton's toughness and savvy should serve the Horned Frogs well as she has the ability to score the ball and compete on the BCS level. Hamilton is coming off an impressive spring evaluation weekend at the Boo Williams Spring Invitational in which she and her Cy-Fair teammate Peyton Little (Texas A&M) led their Cy-Fair team to a semi-final finish. She is not afraid to take the big shot and possesses the skill set to knock down the 3-pointer or a midrange pull-up. -- Keil Moore
Perry chooses UCLA lateAlexis Perry is a talented guard and was one of the five best Class of 2011 prospects on the board when she signed last week. A couple of knee injuries prevented her from exploding onto the national scene during the summer season. However, she's been impressive each of the past two years at the Nike TOC before Christmas playing against some of the nation's top point guards. Her skill set includes the ability to handle going in either direction, get the ball where it needs to be and the willingness to lead vocally. On paper, it's a great late sign for new UCLA head coach Cori Close as she begins her time in Westwood after serving as the associate head coach at Florida State. She gets off to a nice start by signing a potential first-year contributor at arguably the game's most important position. Ironically, Perry played her high school ball with five-star post prospect Justine Hartman who decommitted from UCLA last week. -- Brandon Clay
