Noblesville's record-setting performance highlights girls' soccer leaderboard
Noblesville (Ind.) might have come up short in its bid for a state title, but its memorable season will be etched in the record books for years to come.
Noblesville shut out all 22 opponents this season, setting state records for shutouts and consecutive shutouts. In addition, the team's defensive performance ranks as the third-longest consecutive shutout streak in national history, according to the combined Nation Federation and National Soccer Coaches Association of America records.
Therefore, Noblesville performances highlight our initial list of national high school girls' soccer leaders for the 2008-09 school year.
The national leaders' list recognizes the following season performances: 35 goals scored, 25 assists, eight straight shutouts as a keeper and 15 shutouts on the season for keepers. In the team categories: 100 or more goals scored.
In the single-match categories, teams that have scored 12 or more goals in a match, players that have scored five or more goals and players who have four or more assists. Performances will be accepted only from official school sources (e.g., a coach or athletic director).
Noblesville's playoff run ended with a penalty kick loss following a scoreless draw with Evansville Reitz Memorial. Only the 1995-96 winter season efforts of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas [26 matches] and Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial [23 matches] top Noblesville's 2008 fall performance.
