Got Game Minnesota
Who's got game? Each month, ESPN RISE finds out. Here are the athletes we recognized in October:
STEPHEN JOHNSON MAHTOMEDI - FOOTBALL
Johnson's spectacular play last season helped Mahtomedi advance to a state title game, and this season the senior running back hopes to accomplish the same feat. But this year, he undoubtedly wants the result to be different. The 6-foot, 185-pound Johnson rushed for 2,134 yards and 18 touchdowns last season and propelled the Zephyrs to the Class AAAA final, where they fell to Totino- Grace, 13-8.
ALLIE PHILLIPS MOUNDS VIEW - GIRLS' SOCCER
The Mustangs will be chasing their first state title in team history this season, and Phillips is a big reason why. The senior entered the season with 49 career goals but isn't exclusively a scorer. In fact, Phillips can dominate a game from virtually anywhere on the field, which is one of the biggest reasons why she has earned three All-Conference selections. The Minnesota recruit also earned Class AA All-State honors last year.
