Got Game San Antonio/Austin
MICHELLE HUANG
WESTWOOD GIRLS' SWIMMING
Westwood has dominated its district this decade, winning six of the past eight district championships entering the 2008-09 season. You can make that seven out of the past nine after the Warriors set a meet record with 206 points at the District 16-5A meet on Jan. 26. Huang earned District Girls' Swimmer of the Year honors after winning the 100 and 200 freestyle and helping a pair of relay teams to victory.
HALEY CHAMBERS
HYDE PARK BAPTIST SOFTBALL
Some numbers are simply too mind-boggling to ignore. One such number is Chambers' 2008 batting average: .754. Even more impressive is that Chambers posted such a stunning average as a freshman. The first baseman/outfielder added seven home runs, 40 RBI and 44 runs to help her team to a district championship. Chambers earned Newcomer of the Year honors from the Austin American- Statesman and also landed on the TAPPS Class 4A All- State team.
JESSICA BORTH
CHURCHILL GIRLS' GOLF
After placing in the top 10 at the Class 5A state tournament the past two years, Borth has to be considered one of the favorites to take home the state crown this spring. The senior finished tied for fourth at state last season after firing rounds of 77 and 73. She earned San Antonio Express-News Player of the Year honors last spring and carried that momentum into the summer. She finished in the top 20 in each of her four AJGA appearances and entered this season rated the state's No. 10 senior in the AJGA Polo Rankings.
JORDAN JAHR
LAKE TRAVIS BOYS' BASKETBALL
Jahr averaged 19.4 points per game as a junior last season to earn District 25-4A MVP honors, but he took his game to a whole new level this winter. The Cavaliers were 25-1 and the state's top-ranked Class 4A team as of press time, thanks in large part to Jahr's offensive output. In a huge game against Killeen on Jan. 30, Jahr lit up the scoreboard for 30 points to lead Lake Travis to a 71-58 win that snapped the 'Roos district winning streak at 35.
