JESUS LEON

ANTELOPE BOYS' SOCCER

Every soccer player dreams of scoring the game-winning goal in overtime of the state championship game. Leon made that dream come true in his soccer team's Class 3A state title game against defending champ Chandler Valley Christian on Feb. 14. After two scoreless regulation periods and a scoreless overtime session, the senior slipped a shot past goaltender Scott Kuiper to seal the 1-0 win with 27 seconds remaining, avoiding the shootout and giving Antelope the title.

MELE IONGI

MESA MOUNTAIN VIEW GIRLS' TENNIS

Iongi has some lofty expectations to live up to this season. Not only is the senior the defending Class 5A, Division I state champ at No. 1 singles, but she's also the leader and catalyst for Mountain View, which is the team state champion. Iongi can expect to get the best and most competitive games from each of her opponents, but there's reason to believe she can handle it she's rated the nation's No. 144 senior by TennisRecruiting.net.
