JOHN YOHE + JUAN BORBON
ST. DOMINIC BASEBALL
St. Dominic isn't all about star Kyle Hansen (who threw a perfect game on April 1 against St. Mary's). When Yohe takes the mound, he can bring it too. In a CHSAA battle against Holy Trinity on April 8, the senior threw a complete-game six-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 4-3 win. Yohe's presence on the mound opened up a spot at third base for Borbon, who took full advantage. He went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
NOLAN BECKER
STUYVESANT BASEBALL
This was as dominant a performance as you'll ever see, at any level. Becker, a 6-foot-6 senior ESPN RISE All-Area first team selection, threw a perfect game against Manhattan Bridges on April 8. But that's been done plenty of times at the high school level. The biggest news was that Becker fanned all 18 batters he faced in the 10-0 win. Incredibly, only three batters managed to hit a foul ball against Becker.
JACKIE KELLY + LAURA LEONE
ST. JOSEPH BY THE SEA SOFTBALL
In a hard-fought battle against PSAL power Madison, it was the Jackie and Laura Show. The dangerous duo had all three RBIs in a 3-2, nine-inning triumph on April 13. Kelly, a sophomore, got things started in the fourth with a single and scored on a double by Leone, a junior. Then with the Vikings trailing, 2-1, in the bottom of the ninth, Kelly doubled in the tying run and scored on Leone's twobagger.
MONICA DeMAIRO
MASSAPEQUA GIRLS' LACROSSE
DeMairo, an All-American and Massapequa's leading scorer the last two seasons, came out on fire in 2009. The senior midfielder scored six goals and added an assist in a tough 13-11 loss to Manhasset on April 6. She scored seven goals twice in a four-day span, in a 25-21 win over West Babylon on March 27 and a 21-8 triumph over South Side on March 31. DeMairo has signed with Duke.
