Editor's note: Every week, ESPN RISE editor David Auguste will take you on a journey to the hometowns of some of the nation's top talents, giving you an inside look at where they're from. We'll get a tour of their favorite spots for sports, good eats, entertainment and more. So come along for the ride and remember, it's not where you're at, it's where you're from.
I'm from Temple, Texas. It's probably an hour away from Austin. I attend Temple High School.
Bright Lights, Big City
The Temple Mall is a very popular place. There's not really a lot in there. I usually just go to the shoe stores. I have a little bit over 40 pairs of Jordans. My most recent pair was the black and baby blue 12s.
You could also walk on Sixth Street. There are night clubs out there. That's where everything goes on. Me, I get my kicks staying in the house and playing Madden or NCAA.
Pump It Up
The music style is mainly rap down here. I'm a Lil Wayne head; that's what I listen to. Drake, Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman are popular. People also listen to Young Jeezy and Jay-Z. The place to see them in Austin is Pappadeaux. It's like a seafood restaurant but Jeezy went there recently.
Hungry? Why wait?
My roots are from Louisiana so I love jambalaya. People around here like this local pizza shop but I forgot its name.
Belton (Belton, Texas) is our biggest rival. We just don't like them, period. We try to be nice to them and they'll be rude to us. They don't respect us. If you lose (in the head-to-head matchup) you can't eat at such and such food place that week.
There are Dallas Mavericks and University of Texas flags everywhere. The most popular jerseys, however, are the Dallas Cowboys. You see Troy Aikman, Felix Jones and other random Cowboys players.
Drayton McLane, the owner of the Astros, is from this area. Tommie Harris of the Bears went to Ellison High (Killeen, Texas) right outside of Temple. And Kenneth Davis graduated from Temple. He played in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers (1986-88) and the Buffalo Bills (1989-1994).
Kickin' It Old School
The football team, we wear pants that are blue in the front and white in the back. It's been that way as long as I could remember. We wear it every game day.
Say What? (local slang)
"Yo son. '" -- I just be like, 'yo son, what's going on.'
My Tourist Slogan
"Go to sixth street, it might change your life."
