Virginia Tech was happy to give Horan a scholarship
after he hit .376 with 29 RBIs last year to help
the Eagles win the Division 1 state championship.
He also stole 16 bases.
The grandson of Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski,
Mike is making a name for himself. Yastrzemski led
the Prep in RBIs, runs, doubles and triples last year,
and he's signed a letter of intent to play at Vanderbilt.
Flynn was just about perfect last year, posting a 12-0
record with a 0.56 ERA and 119 strikeouts. He also
came up big under pressure, twirling a 10-inning
shutout to beat Auburn, 1-0, in the D2 state final.
Gordon's 5-3 record in 2008 was deceiving, as his
1.20 ERA should have translated into more wins.
Boston College coaches certainly liked what they
saw, and he'll be suiting up for the Eagles next year.
AN AREA COACH ON MIKE YASTRZEMSKI:
"He's solid. Good speed, he can hit, he can throw.
He probably takes a lot of stuff because of his
name, but he just goes out and plays the game.
You've gotta respect that."
