Athletes of the Year Minnesota

BOYS' ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

NICK LEDDY
Eden Prairie / Ice Hockey
Defensemen aren't often considered for lofty honors such as Minneapolis Star-
Tribune Metro Player of the Year or the Mr. Hockey award, which makes it even
more special that Leddy won both honors this season. Known as a two-way
defenseman, the senior amassed 35 points this season and helped Eden Prairie
reach the Class AA state tournament for the first time in six years. The NHL Central
Scouting rankings have Leddy, a Minnesota recruit, as North America's No.
24 skating prospect, and he could be selected early in the NHL Draft on June 26.

OTHER FINALISTS

NICK DOLSKY
Eastview / Baseball
Dolsky's impressive pitching performances earned him a scholarship to pitch
at Arizona next year. The senior righty was picked as one of the top players to
watch by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

ROYCE WHITE
Hopkins / Basketball
White earned Mr. Basketball honors one season after transferring from
DeLaSalle to Hopkins. The senior forward and Minnesota recruit averaged
16.7 points per game and led the Royals to a Class AAAA title.

JAKUB ZIVEC
Grand Rapids / Cross Country
Relegated to junior varsity per MSHSL rules for much of the season, Zivec
shattered several course records before finishing second at Nike Cross
Nationals and fifth at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.

GIRLS' ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

TAYLER HILL
Minneapolis South / Basketball
When all is said and done, Hill will go down as one of the best girls' basketball
players in state history. The senior dominated opposing teams since her
eighth grade year, earning five All-Metro selections by the Minneapolis Star-
Tribune as well as two Gatorade State Player of the Year honors. She is also the
all-time leading scorer in state history, outpacing both boys and girls. Hill,
who led South to a state title this year, originally committed to Texas but
switched her commitment in April, following her brother to Ohio State.

OTHER FINALISTS

AMY BRAUN
Lakeville North / Volleyball
Named one of the nation's top recruits by PrepVolleyball.com, Braun earned
Coaches Association Miss Volleyball honors after finishing her career with
more than 1,500 kills and 2,000 digs. Braun, a senior, is a Northern Iowa recruit.

ANNA GLEASON
Roseville / Gymnastics
Gleason showed her gymnastics dominance by successfully defending her
individual state championship, winning the all-around by four-tenths of a
point. Gleason helped Roseville capture a state crown as well.

BECKY KORTUM
Hopkins / Ice Hockey
Kortum scored 43 goals and added 28 assists this season, helping Hopkins
reach the title game in its first state tournament since 1997. The senior forward
and Minnesota recruit earned Ms. Hockey honors.
