Trailing the field into the stretch, outsider Jeranimo angled to the middle of the track for the drive and flew home for Garrett Gomez to earn his first Grade 1 win in the $300,000 Shoemaker Mile June 30 at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The 6-year-old son of Congaree earned a return trip to the Breeders' Cup Mile Nov. 3 at Santa Anita Park with the victory. The Shoemaker Mile is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series which guarantees the winner a starting berth while paying all fees and up to $10,000 in shipping costs.

Jeranimo ran seventh in last year's TVG Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill Downs.

Sent off at odds of nearly 9-1 in the Shoemaker, he picked up his first win since taking the Citation Handicap over the Hollywood turf with Gomez aboard last November. The bay horse is 3-for-4 on the Hollywood lawn.

Michael Pender trains Jeranimo for owner B. J. Wright. Out of the Jeblar mare Jera, Jeranimo was bred by Brylynn Farm in Florida.

Jeranimo ran the mile in 1:33.97 over firm ground to defeat Argentine import Suggestive Boy by one length. Suggestive Boy, who came to trainer Ron McAnally this spring, was making his first start in the United States after three consecutive Grade 1 wins in his native country.

Kentucky shipper Little Mike, coming off a 2 1/2-length win in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs May 5, settled for third after providing a brisk pace as the 8-5 favorite in the field of eight.
