Trainer Todd Pletcher told HRTV that he is leaning toward running Gemologist, impressive allowance winner at Gulfstream March 16, in the Resorts World Casino New York City Wood Memorial April 7. Pletcher, in a March 18 interview, said Gemologist, a son of Tiznow owned by WinStar Farm, is a big strapping colt and won his allowance race so easily he is more inclined to bring him back in three weeks rather than four and give him the four weeks before the Kentucky Derby. Gemologist, who is undefeated in four career starts, had no trouble winning the one-mile allowance/optional claimer by seven lengths under wraps with his ears pricked. Pletcher will be busy on the Derby trail in the upcoming weeks. He is pointing Ender Knievel to the March 25 Sunland Park Derby and Heavy Breathing and Holiday Promise to the March 24 Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes this weekend. The following weekend he will run El Padrino in the Florida Derby and Discreet Dancer in the Louisiana Derby.
