In anticipation of heavy rain in the area beginning the night of Thursday, June 6, Belmont Park officials plan to roll and seal the track after the Thursday races. According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to begin Thursday night and there is a 90% chance of rain during the day Friday, June 7 in Elmont, N.Y. Rainfall could exceed one inch. Further rain is expected Friday night, with forecasts calling for one to two inches of rainfall, in what will be the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea. In anticipation of the storm, NYRA officials will seal the track, and then monitor and adjust to the weather. "We will use the same procedure as with any other major rain event that is anticipated," said NYRA vice president of facilities and racing surfaces Glen Kozak. "We'll roll and seal the track after the races today in anticipation of heavy rains. "What we actually get in terms of rainfall will determine how we manage the track on Friday with respect to training and other preparations."
