The Ballerina Handicap
It's a typically competitive Ballerina Handicap with 10 quality fillies entered. Honest Lady will be the favorite, but we'll try and beat her with Test winner Dream Supreme. Though she's facing older horses for just the second time in her career, Dream Supreme had her best stuff when beating a tough field in the Test under Pat Day. It was the first time she lived up to her promise, and it appears Bill Mott has her turned around. The key between her and Honest Lady is a nine-pound difference in the weights. Honest Lady will be tough to beat and is the second pick. Terrific at this distance, she has class and never seems to run a bad race. Bourbon Belle is the other logical contender. She was awesome in the Honorable Miss and lost this race last year by a nose. It's doubtful she can run back to her last, when she loved a sloppy track, but she's good enough with her second best stuff to be a contender here.
Picks Summary: 1. Dream Supreme 2. Honest Lady 3. Bourbon Belle
The Pat O'Brien Handicap
With divisional leader Kona Gold sitting this one out, the Pat O'Brien came up a little weak. Cliqout looks like he's got no one to run against him on the front end, so we'll go in that direction. A good sprinter in his own right, he should have a terrific trip and should be able to make amends for his defeats in his last two. Love That Red looks like the horse to beat after his bang-up performance in the Bing Crosby. In his first start for trainer Bob Baffert, he just missed in a fast time. Is 2-for-2 at seven furlongs. Is a bounce candidate after his huge effort in last. Elaborate beat Cliquot in the Bing Crosby Must respect.
Picks Summary: 1. Cliquot 2. Love That Red 3. Elaborate
The Longacres Mile
Bob Baffert loves races like this, ones that have big pots at out-of-the-way racetracks. He comes in here with Commitisize, a fast horse who has banked $776,261 in his career. Though he may face some pressure early, he appears too good for this bunch. Kid Katabatic is the local hope. He loves this track and this distance and should be running hard late. Won this race in 1997. Big Ten was showed nothing in the Hollywood Gold Cup, but was running against far better horses. Looked much better in win in the Californian.
Picks Summary: 1. Commitisize 2. Kid Katabatic 3. Big Ten
