With Chris McCarron aboard, Siphonic drew off to win the Grade 2, $454,400 Breeders' Futurity by six lengths over Harlan's Holiday. Metatron finished third, another two lengths back in a field of 11 2-year-olds, while Kamsack, the 3-2 favorite, was never a threat, finishing seventh. Siphonic paid $9.20 as second choice and ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.79 over a fast track. Owner John Amerman and trainer David Hofmans were confident in Siphonic entering the race, "but this was even better than I expected," said Amerman. Hofmans said he was not bothered by the facts that Siphonic was making only his second career start and his first at a distance. "He'd acted like a colt who could do this," Hofmans said. Attendance on a sunny but cool afternoon was 18,373. | |||||||||
