The 3-year-old colt, trained by Aidan O'Brien, is a 6-1 pick for the race at Belmont Park in New York on Oct. 27. Galileo's handlers said Thursday the colt will be retired at Coolmore Stud in Ireland next season. Galileo will be joined there by stable-companion Mozart, also due to run his final race at the Breeders' Cup, and Golan, winner of the 2000 Guineas in May. No stud fee has yet been set for Galileo, who also won the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot this year. His only defeat came at the Irish Champions Stakes, where he was narrowly beaten by Fantastic Light. The decision by Galileo's trainers follows the tradition of retiring Derby winners to stud at the end of their classic season. Only four Derby winners in the past 20 years have continued racing at the age of 4. | |||||||||
