Pleasantly Perfect winning the 2003 Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita.
A Record-Setting Cup
The 20th Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships was a day of firsts. In the $1 million Juvenile Fillies, Julie Krone, aboard Halfbridled, became the first female jockey to win a Breeders' Cup race. Later in the card, the $2 million John Deere Turf ended with the Cup's first dead heat between defending champion High Chaparral and Johar. But the day's big winner was trainer Richard Mandella who took home a record-breaking four Cup races in one day, including the $4 million Breeder's Cup Classic.
