LEXINGTON, Ky. - Meridiana held off Alternate by a nose to win the $113,400 Bewitch Stakes on Wednesday at Keeneland.

Meridiana finished in 2:31.05 and added the Bewitch to a victory last month in the Orchid Handicap at Gulfstream Park. She paid $12, $6 and $3.40.

Binya, the favorite Wednesday in the race for older fillies and mares, established a slight lead in midstretch. But Meridiana charged up the inside and Alternate closed on the outside in the 1 1/2-mile turf race.

Alternate returned $11.60 and $6. Binya paid $2.80.

Meridiana is owned by Sarah and Jon Kelly and trained by Christophe Clement.
