ETOBICOKE, Ontario -- South Bay Cove ($3.20) turned back a late bid from longshot Extra Bases to capture her second consecutive stakes in Sunday's $175,750 Ontario Debutante at Woodbine.

South Bay Cove pressed the pace on the outside in the six-furlong dash for 2-year-old fillies, as High Button Shoes set splits of :22.34 and :45.78 seconds.

South Bay Cove hit the front at the eighth pole, and then held off Extra Bases to prevail by three-quarters of a length, in a final time of 1:11.81 seconds. Wise Timmy edged High Button Shoes for third in the eight-horse field. Hoper was scratched.

It was the third straight win in the Ontario Debutante for jockey Todd Kabel, who also rode High Button Shoes in her maiden triumph.

"I was concerned about (High Button Shoes), because I've been working her," Kabel said. "When I saw that she was in trouble on the turn, I thought I had the race."

South Bay Cove, who took the Shady Well Stakes in her previous start, banked $114,150 for Windhaven and trainer Roger Attfield.
