Former jockey Krone honored in New York

Jockey Julie Krone, who has won more races than any other female rider, was to be honored Monday with the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award at the Women's Sports Foundation's 25th annual awards dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.

The award is given to a female athlete who exhibits extraordinary courage in her athletic performance and the ability to overcome adversity, makes significant contributions to sport, and serves as an inspiration and role model for others.

Krone, 41, has won 3,704 races. She was injured in a spill last December, tried to return in February, but has not ridden since and has said she is unlikely to ride again.
