'Ink' & 'Blitz' top Sunday works Daily Racing Form LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A quartet of Kentucky Derby prospects put in their final workouts Sunday as Invisible Ink and Thunder Blitz each drilled five furlongs in 59.80 seconds at Churchill Downs in preparation for Saturday's opening leg of the Triple Crown. Also on Sunday's work tab, Dollar Bill was clocked in 1:00 for five furlongs and Balto Star covered the same five-furlong distance in 1:00.60. Todd Pletcher trains both Invisible Ink and Balto Star and on Sunday Invisible Ink, the least accomplished of the two, turned in the more impressive move. Invisible Ink, who has yet to win a stakes race, was timed in splits of 24.40 and 47.80 seconds and galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.20. Balto Star, winner of the Grade 2 Arkansas Derby and Spiral, reeled off fractions of 25 and 49 seconds and galloped out in 1:14. "They were both what we were after," Pletcher said. "Invisible Ink's work was absolutely perfect." Thunder Blitz, the Flamingo winner, galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.20, according to trainer Joe Orseno. "He came back to the barn bouncing," Orseno said. "It was a good work form him." Dollar Bill's minute-flat work included fractions of 24.20 and 48 seconds. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:15. "I wanted a good, solid five-eighths. I didn't want a sissy work," trainer Dallas Stewart said. "I was really happy. We're in good shape." |
