Setup man Tyler Clippard’s struggles to close the regular season continued into the playoffs. Clippard surrendered an RBI single to Adrian Gonzalez in the eighth as the Dodgers got on the scoreboard. Clippard had a 7.11 ERA in his final 12 regular-season appearances, which prompted manager Terry Collins to at least consider having Addison Reed become the primary setup man in the NLDS. The manager opted to stick with Clippard in Game 1, but that might not be the case the next time.

Adrian Gonzalez, the only Dodger to drive in a run tonight, had to be thrilled not to be facing Jacob deGrom. He had struck out in all three plate appearances off the young flame thrower, twice on upper-90's fastballs and once on an 87-mph change up. Coming in, he was 3-for-8 with two home runs off him.

Don Mattingly is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't with Clayton Kershaw and the seventh inning in the post-season. He was criticized for leaving him out there too long against the St. Louis Cardinals in previous Octobers. Now, he brings in Pedro Baez and he gives up a two-run single to David Wright.

Jacob deGrom outdueled Clayton Kershaw on Friday night, tossing seven scoreless innings. De Grom struck out 13 in the process. That matches the smost in franchise history in a postseason. Tom Seaver in the 1973 NLCS fanned 13, too.

12 Ks for Jacob deGrom -- one shy of matching Tom Seaver's franchise postseason record. And Chase Utley to pinch hit.

Kershaw leaves the bases loaded

Clayton Kershaw went 6 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 run, 4 BBs and striking out 11, the three runners left on base are his responsibility and Pedro Baez will come in for the Dodgers. Mets have the 1-0 edge. Follow live
