At the core of most every athlete rests a primal need -- not to get paid or to win championships or even to belong among the hierarchy of a team structure. It's to play. To simply compete. And at the University of Miami, the school took that away this week. Hours after the Hurricanes beat South Florida 6-3 on Saturday to gain bowl eligibility, Miami announced it would forego the postseason this year to focus on the NCAA investigation that hangs over the UM program like a swirling storm about to strike.
