How the Dodgers got creative with Maeda

Kenta Maeda was the first pitcher to land an eight-year deal since Mike Hampton, but the Dodgers did an outstanding job of protecting their investment: They are on the hook for just $25 million in guaranteed money. Creative contracts (Insider)

Butch Davis: USC great first test for Bama next season (0:46)

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

I'm not so sure the Dodgers trade Andre Ethier. Yes, they have outfield depth but Ethier was productive last year and is a much better bet for 2016 than Carl Crawford while providing a hedge against Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig. Scott Van Slyke and Trayce Thompson, meanwhile, are more right-handed platoon bats than everyday players. It's a logjam but the solution may be just to eat Crawford's money.

Gurley ready for some hardware (2:03)

Nick Wagoner ESPN Staff Writer

Rams running back Todd Gurley told me this morning that the foot issue that kept him out of the regular season finale is not an issue moving forward. He's planning to set up in Los Angeles soon and go through a full offseason of workouts there. Gurley didn't get to do that last offseason as he rehabbed a torn ACL but is looking forward to it now. "Last year it was just all about my knee," Gurley said. "I couldn't do like extra workouts on my own because they had to keep an eye on it. I'm definitely looking forward to being able to doing my own workouts and not having to be monitored by everybody."
