Dodgers' rotation shakeup is 'matchup-based'

With a pair of off-days mixed into the upcoming road trip, most of the Dodgers starters will get some extra time to rest between outings.

Yasiel Puig, who is just 7-for-51 (.137) over his last 14 games, was not in the Dodgers' starting lineup Saturday against the Padres. Enrique Hernandez was in right field for the first time this season. "I texted (Puig) last night and just said I thought he needed a day just to clear his mind," manager Dave Roberts said.

The Dodgers will scramble their starting rotation a bit next week. Scott Kazmir and Alex Wood will pitch at Tampa. Kenta Maeda was moved to next weekend's series at Toronto to face the right-handed heavy Jays lineup. The Dodgers are taking advantage of two off days next week to find matchups they prefer.

Rams have to make decisions by next week on exercising 5th year options on LB Alec Ogletree and WR Tavon Austin. League source says Ogletree will have his 5th year option picked up but decision hasn't been officially made yet on Austin. Team is leaning toward picking up Austin's option but with the intent to sign him to an extension before he'd play under it.

After making just six picks in the 2016 NFL draft, the Rams are expecting a big class of undrafted free agents. Jeff Fisher estimated that group could include 18-20 players and that finding some depth for the secondary will be the top priority after the draft.

Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher had no update on team's efforts to move QB Nick Foles. Said there's "speculation" but nothing to add at the moment. Team is still expected to try to find a trade partner for Foles as they now have four quarterbacks on the roster.

With their final pick of the draft, No. 206 overall, the Los Angeles Rams select WR Michael Thomas of Southern Miss. The Rams have now used four of their five picks today on tight ends and receivers. They're loading up in hopes of getting help for rookie QB Jared Goff.
