UCLA basketball player Shabazz Muhammad is 20 years old, not 19, his father told the Los Angeles Times for a story published on Friday.

Muhammad, the Pac-12 freshman of the year, is widely expected to leave school early and enter the NBA draft. If he does, his age might end up being a factor.

Muhammad's father, Ron Holmes, told the Times his son was 19, born in 1993, in a phone call earlier this week. Later, he called the paper back and said his son was actually 20, born in 1992.

The school changed his age in their online roster on Friday.

The Times, quoting a UCLA spokesman, said the wrong birth year was a mistake or typo and that Holmes had called the school to correct it. "We'll make the necessary adjustments to our media guide," he said.

Muhammad is listed as the seventh overall pick on ESPN.com NBA draft expert Chad Ford's big board.
