Hunter was taken to a hospital for precautionary X-rays, which were negative. The Angels called the injury a "soft tissue contusion" and said Hunter is day to day.
The three-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner was hit by a 95 mph fastball in the first inning. He was checked out by trainer Ned Bergert and went to first base, but was replaced in the field by Reggie Willits for the top of the second inning.
Hunter is batting .272 with seven homers and 29 RBIs in 47 games.
