LOS ANGELES -- Team doctors were expected to examine Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Juan Uribe for a lower abdomen strain after Saturday night's 7-6 win against the Washington Nationals, manager Don Mattingly said.

Uribe, who left after the fifth inning as part of a double switch, said the injury had been bothering him "for about a week" and did not know when or how the strain occurred. Uribe started at third base Saturday and went 1-for-3 before being replaced by Jamey Carroll. His status for Sunday's finale was unknown.

Mattingly said he was aware of Uribe's strain heading into the game.

"I probably wouldn't have done it there had he not had a little something going on," Mattingly said of the double switch. "We'll see how [the checkup] comes out. He felt like he could play with it, but you never know. I wanted to make sure I had a healthy guy in there."

Uribe, in the first year of a three-year, $21 million contract, is hitting .204 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in 76 games. He is 5-for-28 (.179) in eight games since the All-Star break.
