LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe had surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia and will be out for the rest of the season.

The team says Uribe had the surgery in Los Angeles and he will begin rehabilitation within two weeks. Recovery is expected to take six to eight weeks. He's expected to be ready by spring training.

Uribe played in 77 games in his first season with the Dodgers after joining them from the San Francisco Giants. He hit .204 with four home runs and 28 RBIs.
