The Los Angeles Angels say X-rays to Erick Aybar's right big toe showed a "small line," but they stopped short of calling it a fracture and have not put Aybar on the 15-day disabled list.

Aybar fouled a pitch off his toe Saturday in a game against the Texas Rangers. The team recalled its top infield prospect, Jean Segura, Sunday in case it needs an injury replacement for backup shortstop Maicer Izturis, who has started the last two games.

"We'll go by how Erick feels and, if he can improve enough, hopefully we'll avoid the DL, but he's still sore," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Right now, we've got infield coverage."

Aybar, the 2011 Gold Glove winner, was fitted with a walking boot.
