Albert Pujols not with Angels
ANAHIEM, Calif. -- Albert Pujols was not with the Los Angeles Angels for Tuesday's 11-3 win against the Texas Rangers, having stayed behind to be with his wife, Deidre, who delivered the couple's fifth child Sunday in Kansas City.
Pujols, who leads the Angels with 96 RBIs and is second on the team with 30 home runs, played Sunday in Kansas City despite staying up most of Saturday night with his wife. The star slugger is expected to return Wednesday for the second game of Los Angeles' series with Texas.
"There's no doubt Albert is where he needs to be," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "No doubt. Speaking for myself and you can ask other people in our organization, and I'm sure we're all on the same page with that."
The absence of Pujols, the No. 3 batter in the lineup, came at an inopportune time for the Angels, even if it's just for one game. The Angels entered Tuesday three games out of the second wild-card spot with 15 games remaining as they began a nine-game homestand.
"We've gone through stretches of the season where (Pujols) has played hurt or hasn't been available," Scoscia said. "I think our lineup is deep and hopefully on the offensive side, we'll absorb it and we're going to do what we need to do."
