Albert Pujols playing through pain
Karabell: Pujols Still a Keeper
Albert Pujols' comments about his hurting foot will likely cause fantasy baseball owners to panic but now's not the time to bail on the slugger, Eric Karabell writes. Blog
Pujols played his fourth straight game at DH on Sunday -- and doubled home two runs in the Angels' 13-inning, 4-3 win -- while dealing with plantar fasciitis, an inflammation in his left foot.
Pujols said he felt discomfort while running to second base on his double.
"I'm dying," Pujols told the Times. "It's hurting real bad."
Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto told the Times that the team will let Pujols play as long as he can tolerate the pain.
"He is particularly tough, mentally and physically. He's handling it as well as you can," Dipoto told the newspaper.
Dipoto did not reveal a timeline to get Pujols back in the field, but the team expects him to recover over the course of the season.
"There's not a whole lot anybody can forecast," Dipoto said. "It's based on his own tolerance."
