BALTIMORE -- The Los Angeles Angels have activated outfielder Peter Bourjos from the 15-day disabled list, a move that will shift All-Star Mike Trout to left field when Bourjos is in the lineup.

Bourjos, who missed 38 games with a left hamstring strain, was in the starting lineup Monday night against the Orioles. He was hitting .313 with two homers and eight RBIs before his injury and went 2 for 4 in his return, a 4-3 loss to the Orioles.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia says Bourjos is a "Gold Glove-caliber" defender who improves the L.A. outfield. Trout took the change in stride, pointing out that he'd play center field on the days Bourjos didn't.

To create a roster spot for Bourjos, third baseman Chris Nelson was designated for assignment. Nelson played nine games after being claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees on May 18.
