Lakers' Derrick Caracter sits out

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Lakers rookie forward Derrick Caracter sat out Sunday's preseason game against the Utah Jazz at Staples Center because of back spasms.

Caracter, the 58th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft, has appeared in all four of the previous preseason games, averaging 1.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in just over 11 minutes.

The rookie has been consistently praised by Lakers coach Phil Jackson, and is expected to be called upon to help pick up the slack while starting center Andrew Bynum recovers from offseason knee surgery.
