Eric Bledsoe expected out 6-8 weeks

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers second-year guard Eric Bledsoe suffered a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee during the five-month NBA lockout and is expected to be out 6-8 weeks from Friday.

Bledsoe, a 2010 first-round pick out of Kentucky, underwent surgery on the knee on Oct. 7 in his hometown of Birmingham, Ala. The surgery was performed at the office of notable sports physician Dr. James Andrews.

Bledsoe has been cleared to take part in water therapy and strength work effective immediately. He's expected to increase his workload by Christmas, when the Clippers begin the 2011-12 season, and could be on track to return by late January.

Bledsoe averaged 6.7 points and 3.6 assists in 22.7 minutes per game last season. He played in all but one of the team's games -- second only to superstar forward Blake Griffin -- and started 25 of them.

He was projected to be the Clippers' primary backup to point guard Mo Williams in the 2011-12 season and could also log time alongside Williams in the backcourt when healthy.
