Chauncey Billups out with strained groin

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers guard Chauncey Billups missed Friday night's 114-101 loss to the Chicago Bulls with a strained right groin and will be regarded as day to day.

Veteran Mo Williams started in his place and was inadvertently introduced as Billups during the Clippers' pregame introductions for their 2011-12 home opener.

Billups, 35, suffered the injury in Wednesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs. He practiced lightly Thursday and was a game-time decision for Friday's game.

"We want to be smart about it," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said before the game. "It's a long season and we're just starting this."

The Clippers play Portland on Sunday, Houston on Wednesday and Milwaukee on Saturday -- all three at home -- before their first back-to-back of the season on Jan. 10 and 11.
