Chris Paul (groin) expects to start

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. -- Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul did not practice Friday with the team because of the strained left groin he suffered Tuesday in Atlanta.

Paul expects to practice Saturday and start Sunday when the Clippers open the playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies.

"They didn't let me practice, but I'll be ready to go tomorrow," Paul said. "I'm feeling better. I'm going to keep going and get treatment."

Paul sat out Wednesday's regular-season finale against New York with the injury, but said he possibly could have played if it were a playoff game.

"Possibly, but it's risk versus reward," Paul said. "Why go out there and do that and possibly not be able to play Sunday?"

Paul was in uniform against the Knicks and again at practice on Friday but will not test his injured groin until Saturday, when the Clippers will practice before flying to Memphis.

"I think he'll be fine," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "But groins and backs and things like that can be really tough so we'll be as cautious as possible."
