The Los Angeles Clippers have joined in the recruiting of 39-year-old free agent forward Grant Hill, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

The Clippers have long been searching for perimeter players to complement their nucleus of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. They have so far signed shooting guard Jamal Crawford and re-signed guard Chauncey Billups this summer.

Hill would give the team depth at the small forward position, behind starter Caron Butler. The team is considering Hill, as well as New Orleans guard Marco Belinelli, according to sources.

Hill would add a defensive presence and more overall play-making ability. Belinelli is considered one of the top shooters on the free-agent market.

The Clippers could acquire Hill or Belinelli with their $1.9 million bi-annual exception or via a sign-and-trade, likely involving backup forward Ryan Gomes, who is due to make $4 million in the final year of his contract.

The Clippers believe they have a strong chance at landing Hill because of coach Vinny Del Negro's previous relationship with him -- Del Negro was a member of the Phoenix Suns' front office during Hill's tenure with the team.

The Los Angeles Times first reported the team's interest in Hill.
