Lakers waive Chris Douglas-Roberts

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Lakers waived forward Chris Douglas-Roberts and center Greg Somogyi, the team announced Monday.

Douglas-Roberts played in four preseason games for the Lakers, averaging 4.0 points and 0.8 rebounds in 8.3 minutes per game. The three-year NBA veteran developed a fast rapport with Kobe Bryant as the 6-7, 210-pound Douglas-Roberts was matched up with the 6-6, 205-pound Bryant in practice. Despite his NBA experience and positive impact in camp, Douglas-Roberts was a long shot to make the team with the Lakers already having 13 guaranteed contracts on their books.

"(Douglas-Roberts) played well," Lakers coach Mike Brown said. "Obviously he didn't play well enough to really stand out and earn that spot, but all four of the guys that we released ... they made our camp competitive. They brought something to the table. That's what you hope for from guys that you're bringing to camp, that they can at least make it competitive."

Somogyi, a 7-3 center out of UC Santa Barbara, averaged 1.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 7.7 minutes in three preseason games with the Lakers.

The Lakers had previously cut forward Reeves Nelson and center Ronnie Aguilar over the weekend.

"They're all good guys and at some point and time they may have a shot at playing in the league, especially a guy like CDR," Brown said. "He just wasn't quite in the right spot to make our team right now."

The Lakers' training camp roster now stands at 16 players. Guards Andrew Goudelock and Darius Johnson-Odom and center Robert Sacre are all still on non-guaranteed deals. The Lakers have to cut down their roster to 15 players or less by Oct. 29, the day before the regular season begins.
