Muhammad, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, was the prize recruit this year for UCLA, which landed the top-ranked recruiting class in the nation. His short tenure at UCLA has already been tumultuous.
He is currently the subject of an NCAA review regarding his amateur status and has not yet been declared eligible to play this season. UCLA opens play Nov. 9 against Indiana State.
Earlier this summer, Muhammad suffered a high ankle sprain that coach Ben Howland called "one of the worst" he'd ever seen. The school also held him out of UCLA's three-game goodwill trip to China in August because of the NCAA investigation.
Fellow freshman Kyle Anderson, another top-five recruit in the nation, is also under investigation by the NCAA and has not yet been cleared. Earlier this week, the Bruins lost forward David Wear to an ankle sprain and two weeks ago guard Tyler Lamb had surgery to repair cartilage in his knee.
Wear is expected back next week. Lamb should return early next month.
