UCLA talks to Randy Shannon

UCLA interviewed former Miami head coach Randy Shannon for its vacant defensive coordinator position.

"It was a good visit," Shannon said. "It's an intriguing situation. They've done a good job recruiting. Rick [Neuheisel] is a good guy. It's the Pac-10. It's UCLA."

Shannon has not been offered the job, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Tuesday.

Shannon was fired as Miami's head coach after going 28-22 in four seasons. He was dismissed with four years remaining on his contract.

Shannon is known as an accomplished recruiter and defensive coach. In his six seasons as Miami's defensive coordinator, from 2001-06, his defenses ranked in the top 10 nationally five times.

UCLA fired Chuck Bullough as its defensive coordinator on Dec. 18.

Joe Schad covers college football for ESPN. Information from ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne was used in this report.
